چکیده

Wildfires are a common phenomenon globally, nonetheless some ecosystems more adapted than others. In this work, we show results of study conducted in Torres del Paine National Park (Chile) that suffered big forest fire 2011, affecting 17,666 ha. The is located the transitional forest-steppe zone whose annual rainfall varies between 300 and 1,500 mm. Plant communities goes from Patagonian steppe, pre-Andean scrub to Magellanic forest. Based on vegetation community trying cover all representative sectors affected by fire, 5 areas park were sampled 2019 following transects where recovery has been monitored since occurred. Soil parameters used evaluate were: texture, soil water repellency (WR), organic matter (OM), aggregation, including total content macroaggregates (TCA) their stability (AS). showed high values OM, however three statistically lower OM burned samples. WR was present (from slight severe) 75% samples, without differences unburned. correlations analyses indicated related with type quantity, better obtained when only samples same area included analyses. aggregation soils have poor structural development. TCA 16 50%, AS not very (average 66%), being highest lowest erosion processes. This suggests higher consequence destruction loss less resistant fraction after fire. combination sand (low specific surface area) make them susceptible develop WR. Since these scarce development structure, structure vulnerable processes Measures protect or accelerate recommended new human caused wildfires could occur.

Inland water microcrustacean assemblages in an altitudinal gradient in Aysen region (46° S, Patagonia Chile).

The Chilean Patagonia has numerous kinds of inland water ecosystems such as lakes, ponds, wetlands and rivers that have been poorly studied due to access difficulties. This study was carried out in Aysen region, in southern Chile, and it included different kinds of water bodies such as rivers, streams, ponds, lagoons and lakes distributed along an altitudinal gradient at 46° S. It was found a l...

Improving Soil Physical Indicators by Soil Amendment to a Saline-Sodic Soil

The application of organic amendments can be an appropriate solution to reclaim and improve physical propertiesof saline-sodic soils. In this research, an experiment was performed under greenhouse conditions to study the effect ofamendments to the physical properties of loamy saline-sodic soil. The five treatments were control (withoutamendment), municipal solid waste compost (MC), vermicompost...

Mitochondrial DNA diversity of feral pigs from Karukinka Natural Park, Tierra del Fuego Island, Chile.

Control or eradication of exotic species is one of the greatest challenges facing biodiversity and ecosystem conservation. Domestic pigs (Sus scrofa domestica) were released and became feral in the southern region of Chilean Tierra del Fuego Island in the 1900s. Currently, they inhabit part of Karukinka Natural Park, an area of global conservation concern. To gain insight into the control of th...
